Final workshop

Today, with Katie, we made the final workshop.
Every group showed his work to the others, receiving comments and suggestions.
At the end we had our certificate of attendance.

Well ... now this experience is finished: it was a good and interesting one, and I strongly hope to have the opportunity to make other similar experiences in the future.

Greetings to all, it was a pleasure :-)

Project Based Learning & CLIL

Today, with Katie, we worked on PBL. First of all we watched a video , and from it we discussed about the 5 key aspect of PBL (Real world connection; Core to learning; Structured collaboration; Multifaceted assessments).
Then we were divided in groups and worked on a PBL project.
The last part of the lesson was about developing writing skills.

CLIL & film - Learner autonomy

Today, with Rachel, we have analysed the use of movies in a CLIL lesson. She gave us some suggestions and useful Internet resources. We made also interesting group activities to stimulate our reflections.
After that, she taught about the learner autonomy; as usual, we made also group activities to be better involved in the learning process, but these activities can be also used by us with our students.
In the afternoon we made an interesting visit to the Christ Church Cathedral. As usual, Mick was a great guide!

ICT & CLIL

Today, with Kathie, we have analysed a CLIL lesson planning; after that each group made a comparison of his analysis with the one of another group. The role of Katie was to stimulate and assist the work of the groups.
After that, again working in group, we began to build a small CLIL lesson using ICT tools.
The groups were made with teachers teaching similar subjects, so I worked with Stefano and Carmelo. We chose to make a short film using Kizoa, an Internet tool that allows to make video/presentations; the topic is "Why use arrays instead of simple variables?"
In the afternoon we made a beautiful and interesting visit to the Chester Beatty Library, inside Dublin Castle.

Simulating CLIL lessons

Again with Liliane, we made a lot of activities to simulate two kind of lessons:
  • a history lesson
  • a science lesson
In the simulation we used the CLIL methodology.
In the afternoon we made a nice visit to the Botanic Gardens.

Using Reading Texts and Art in CLIL

Today, with Liliane, we made a lot of activities using written texts and arts to make a CLIL lesson.
We also used Internet resources during the lesson to get involved and interact among us. I have found quite interesting "quizlet.live", that allows the management of a competitive quiz.
In the afternoon we made a tour of the Guinness storehouse: it's for
tourists, and I have found it not so interesting.

Teaching history using CLIL

Students again. We acted as if we were students in a CLIL lesson about Irish history. Rachel gave us the instructions and the material. Again, we were highly involved and made a lot of interaction among us.
After that, Katie presented Internet resources about CLIL; and as usual we had an active role in the lesson.
I think that this is a good way to teach, but it requires for sure more time with respect to the traditional way.
In the afternoon we made a tour of the National Gallery.
What to say ... Mick, you are the best!
